In 2019, the leading European gas and oil producer Wintershall DEA again decided to work with Heisters & Partner. Wintershall, a subsidiary of BASF AG, merged with DEA in 2019 and explores and produces gas and oil in many parts of the world. The main focus of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) report is on the sustainable development of the company, taking into account the UN sustainability goals. The topic of the current report asks how digitalization is driving Wintershall DEA forward and explains what opportunities digital change offers and how these impact safety and the ecological footprint.

Wintershall DEA has always combined economic success with social responsibility, the responsible use of natural resources and environmental protection – even in its two predecessor companies. The merged company follows a consistent approach that places the environment and people at the center of all its activities: »Economic concerns do not take priority over health, occupational safety and environmental protection. Nothing is so urgent or important that the HSE principles can be ignored at Wintershall DEA,« it says in the introduction.

This year's corporate responsibility report focuses on the company's digitalization, a topic that is revolutionizing almost every aspect of our lives today and is also of great importance for the raw materials company. CEO Mario Mehren says in the introduction to the report: »With the projects 'Wintershall 4.0' and 'Global Oil & Gas Data Integration', Wintershall is actively shaping the process of digitalization. That means much more than just installing a few new programs and apps.«

The communications section of the report shows how Wintershall DEA is rethinking complete work processes and the entire information and data architecture in order to significantly modernize collaboration within the company and make it more efficient. The potential of digital change for the environment, such as saving energy and optimizing the ecological footprint, is also shown using illustrations of pilot projects in order to provide clear and targeted information. The reader is guided through the world of digital change in interviews and information panels.

The report illustrates these complex relationships using independent information graphics and includes journalistically prepared storytelling features to credibly underline the oil and gas producer's holistic commitment to environmental protection and occupational safety.
